This is the third book of the Jackson Brodie series. The detective that is going through a midlife crisis, and seems depressed. But that is the power of narrative.
I think Kate Atkinson loves the slow narration and telling the scenes, and description, that some times do compromise with the tale, but in the end, they are worth it because of their literary value.
The train accident is one of the best-written accident I read, reminding of another masterpiece, that is The Namesake.

Kate Atkison brings all of them through an incident, and tell the story of grief and chances.
A wonderful commentary on chances, and how the universe play with every person.
It is an excellent book.
